About my counselling background
It's very important for the success of your counselling to feel a connection with the counsellor you choose to work with, so here is some information about me.
I am a registered and accredited counsellor in private practice and I work online or in person in central Brighton.
I am a sensitive and perceptive person, and in my counselling sessions I use an appropriate balance between support and challenge, depending on the needs of the person I am working with.
My interest in counselling was sparked when I had counselling myself, and I experienced the power of talking to someone, and letting go of negative internal dialogues. Counselling can be effective in addressing a wide range of issues, large or small. It provides the opportunity for you to talk about whatever is worrying you in a supportive environment and in complete confidence. It can help you explore your thoughts and feelings and gain an understanding of yourself and your experiences. This process of exploration and discovery can make you feel stronger and help you deal with the challenging demands of life.
I started training as a counsellor in 2000 and completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Humanistic Counselling at Brighton University in 2004. I have been working as a counsellor in Brighton since 2004 and I have been a BACP accredited counsellor since 2009. Between 2004 and 2013, I worked at The Beech Group, a successful group practice in Brighton, but I now run my own practice. I am an integrative counsellor, which means I am able to use a number of counselling approaches according to the needs of my clients. I have also had extensive training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with leading American Cognitive therapist, Christine Padesky. CBT is an approach to therapy favoured by the NHS and recommended in the N.I.C.E. guidelines. I am in ongoing supervision with a senior accredited counsellor.
In addition to being a counsellor, I teach a popular counselling skills course at Varndean College in Brighton.
